Mac Tip of The Week: Removing a Program From the Dock!

by

Are there programs (applications) in your dock that you hardly use? Would you like to remove them?

The Dock
The Dock
The dock is much like the Desktop in Windows. It provides shortcuts to your most used applications.  When you first get a Mac, the Dock comes with a default set of shortcuts, but it probably includes programs that you hardly use.

To permanently remove applications from your Dock , follow these easy steps:

Actually, like many tasks with the Mac, there is more than one way to do this. I have provided two ways, the “Click & Drag” method and the “Right-Click” method. The choice is yours!

Method 1: Click and Drag

1) Locate the application’s  icon in the Dock and put the cursor over it for example, the Microsoft Word Icon icon. Microsoft Word Icon

2) Click on the icon and while holding down on the mouse or track pad, drag the icon towards the desktop.

3) You will notice a white “puff” underneath the icon.

4) Release the track pad or mouse and the icon will disappear.

The icon will no longer appear in the dock. If you later decide that you want to re-add it or if you accidentally remove an icon, have no fear! Follow the steps in last week’s tip to re-add it!

Method 2: Right-Clicking

1) Locate the application’s  icon in the Dock and put the cursor over it for example, the Microsoft Word Icon icon. Microsoft Word Icon

3) Right-click and then put your cursor over Options.

4) You should see a check-mark in front of Keep in Dock. Click on Keep in Dock to remove the check-mark.
